What are the differences between Borescopes, Fiberscopes, and Videoscopes?
Borescopes can be any rigid or flexible instrument that is used to visually inspect an area that is otherwise impossible to view. The term “Borescope” is used universally to describe the majority of remote visual inspection instruments such as videoscopes or video borescopes. Fiberscopes are the smallest diameter flexible inspection instruments that are able to navigate around bends; however they are limited in resolution, light output and available working length. Videoscopes have been replacing both Borescopes and Fiberscopes for industrial inspections due to their superior resolution, light output and ease of use.
What is Articulation?
Video borescopes or videoscopes that AIT rents may have the ability to articulate or steer the tip of the probe. This allows the inspector to point the end of the scope in almost any direction by remote control. This is typically needed in inspection where bends and turn are involved or the inspection area is at an off set angle.
Should I use a non-articulating scope (aka pipe camera) or an articulating scope?
Non-articulating video inspection cameras are known as pipe cameras or push rod cameras. Pipe cameras are available in longer lengths of 15 meters or longer. They have camera heads that range in diameter of 1/2 inch (13mm) to 2 inches (55mm). Normally, Push rod or pipe inspection cameras will be used for pipe inspections, boiler tube inspections, heat echanger inspections and others.
How do you determine what diameter borescope to use?
AIT recomends that you use the largest diameter scope that will be able to access the desired inspection area and still be able to negotiate any bends or turns that may be present. The larger the diameter borescope rental means brighter and better image resolution. Larger diameters also tend to be easier to manipulate and are more robust. Our Staff has years of experience and if you are not certain which is the best choice they will be happy to assist you.
What length of scope should I use?
Use the shortest length needed to access the area you wish to inspect. Shorter Videoscopes are easier to manipulate and have superior articulation than longer Videoscopes. Remember any unused length will be coiled up around your feet.
Can I record the inspection?
Every Videoscope captures digital still Images (.bmp and .tiff). There is video output to record video as well.
Can your staff recommend a scope for my application?
Our staff has decades of remote visual experience. Describe you application, the smallest ID access, How far you will need to maneuver the Videoscope. The general environment, bends or other obstacles to get around? With this information, we can better assist you in making the best choice.
What are the rental charges and when do they start?
